There are pros and cons to every situation, and cochlear implants are no different. Bryan Seiler, a husband, father and grandfather, recounts his experience of his slow hearing deterioration and the joy that cochlear implants, although it took a while, has added to his life.

Bryan Seiler was no longer hearing his wife speak, the TV and phone conversations. He felt isolated.

“More than half the sounds in my world had disappeared, -Bryan Seiler

As a result, Seiler got the cochlear implant. Although happy, it was a team effort in order to effectively use them. They work differently from hearings aids, that only amplify a sound. Instead, they change sound in the environment to electrical signals. The intricacies of this device requires fine tuning from a professional, and PATIENCE and PRACTICE from the patient.

As a result of diligently practicing his daily exercises laid by his pathologist to help him improve his understanding of the different sounds he was hearing for 6 MONTHS, his hearing significantly improved.

It was a miracle. He was given back his life.

He spoke to his wife, watched TV, listened to his favorite NPR programs and much more.

He was no longer post-lingually deaf!
